Logistics Team Manager - Domestic, Transport and Catering

To provide a strategic logistical and waste management operational service within an education community as well as providing Health and Safety training to the Domestic services team. The post is a key position in delivering a service of excellence in logistics covering 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

The Domestic Services Department  provides a full range of services to the students and staff and is at the heart of the operational excellence that helps provides an education and boarding to over one thousand students and 700 staff on site.

The Domestic Services team operates the cleaning, housekeeping, laundry, pastoral care of the students as well a logistical support team that this role will manage.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities: Understand and communicate  and deliver a standard of excellence in all areas

Build an inclusive Logistics team by engaging the Catering drivers and delivering functions with a one team mentality.

Undertake projects to drive the business forward ensuring the Logistics team is at the forefront of the industry, always looking for and seeking to implement service improvements

To direct and lead the Logistics team through the Supervisors to ensure that specific areas of responsibility are achieved, work schedules and outside cleaning is monitored, furniture moving planned in a timely manner

Regularly liaise with the  Events Management Team and attend meetings as appropriate to gain an understanding of the events schedules and expectations.

Create an asset register to ensure  furniture and equipment is utilised to the optimum level and returned to the store post event in a useable condition. Monitor and log any discrepancies between the pre- and post-event and estimate any variances.

Ensure suitable and safe furniture storage.

Input and have control of a booking system for the Domestic Services Team liaising with, the Housekeeping managers to ensure that event locations are pristine and usable following the event.

Ensure correct driver training, including Midas and Banksman Training, maintaining the General Services drivers list and doing annual checks on licences of all in the General Services team who drive any vehicle on site.

Undertake mandatory training and set up a system to deliver training to the Logistics team and Health and Safety Training to the Domestic Services Team

Complete and monitor all Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work for the Logistics Team

Complete and Monitor Sickness/Absence records and challenge absence when triggered by the HR team

Recruit positive and motivated people using the correct systems, policies and practises as directed, including Safeguarding.

Liaise with Security on big events ensuring the team comply with any site security restrictions during events

Complete Performance reviews and ensure training is planned accordingly for the development of the staff

Lead and inspire a competent Logistics team to deliver an unrivalled service to students, staff and visitors

Demonstrate the drive and enthusiasm for customer service and in doing so motivate and enthuse your team to do likewise – have a sense of urgency to get all jobs done quickly and to a very high standard

Be a key member of the Domestic Services Management Team – contributing ideas, strategies and new ways of working that will enhance and drive the department.

Oversee the work of the Logistics team – ensuring the correct standards are in place and provide feedback to improve the operational standards. Challenge negative attitudes and work ethics.

Seek efficiencies  by fairly allocating resource to the workload requests, using the best experience within the team, minimising pressure on the team at peak times, minimising vehicle movements when the opportunity arises to consolidate a number of jobs in the same location

Development of three logistics supervisors to take responsibility in times of absence

Establish a real team spirit, allowing everyone a say, encouraging all team members

Understand the other manager’s roles in the Domestic team and demonstrate a strong team work ethic with a “Can do “attitude.

Volunteer and offer to take on any other duties that are reasonably requested
